Sourcegraph (Amp Code) Is Killing Their VS Code Extension. We're Doubling Down on Ours
On February 5, the creators of Amp Code (formerly Sourcegraph's Cody) announced that their VS Code extension will self-destruct in 60 days or less.
The reason? All development effort is being redirected to the CLI. SourceGraph thinks the future of agentic AI coding isn’t in VS Code.
We beg to differ.
Our VS Code extension isn’t going anywhere
Kilo Code is the leading open-source AI coding extension for VS Code, with over 700,000 downloads. We’ve shipped regular updates since the day we launched, and we have no plans to stop.
While other tools are abandoning VS Code to chase the next shiny thing, we’re doubling down on it. Why? Because that’s where developers work. And our job is to meet you there; not force you somewhere else.
We're Not Opinionated. We're About Choice
Some tools want to lock you into one editor, one workflow, one way of doing things. That’s not us.
Kilo is built around a simple idea: you should get to choose how you work:
Choose a GUI editor (VS Code, Cursor, JetBrains), a CLI environment (we recently launched our improved CLI which is a fork of OpenCode), or both!
Choose your AI model - we give you access to 450+ of them.
Choose your workflow - prompt, autocomplete, code reviews, etc.
Our philosophy is to be an all-in-one, agentic AI platform that supports you wherever you are. Our flagship product is the VS Code extension, but we also offer a CLI, a code-review agent, autocomplete, and much more. One platform, every way you want to use it.
