Announcing a Deep-Thinking New Stealth Model, Free in Kilo Code

You can call it Pony Alpha, but it runs like a horse

We’re excited to announce a powerful new stealth model from one of our most popular lab partners—and it’s totally free to use in Kilo Code. They’re calling it Pony Alpha, and it’s available wherever you use Kilo.

It feel like large language models (LLMs) have come further in the past two weeks than in the past two years. And Pony Alpha, a new 200k context model, is a part of that evolution.

As the model landscape heats up, one thing is certain: speed is a big part of the trifecta of cost, speed, and performance. You need all three to win, but without speed you’ll lose developers pretty fast.

At the same time, “thinking” and “reasoning” are equally important, and “structured thinking” is a key part of high performance on AI coding tasks.

The Backstory

Pony Alpha isn’t just another release. It’s a specialized evolution of one of the most beloved open-source models to emerge from a global lab.

While we’re keeping the specific lineage under wraps for now, daily AI-coders might recognize its DNA.

Why “Pony”?

Don’t let the name fool you; this isn’t a toy. This release is optimized to be:

• Faster: Optimized weights for snappier inference.

• Smarter: Enhanced reasoning capabilities that punch way above its weight class.

• Stable: True to its name, it’s a workhorse designed for consistency in production environments.

Because it delivers answers faster than the Pony Express, but with a whole lot more horsepower.

In all seriousness, we aren’t quite ready to drop a full white paper (in fact, we can’t even tell you the name of the lab or many details about the model…and it’s definitely still an alpha release), but it’s live and ready for testing however you code with Kilo.

We want to see how you push its limits before we move it out of stealth.
